Hello and welcome,
Rodney and Mae Wertz worked together on a common interest they shared in photography since 1983. At that time they lived in Loma Linda, California where Rodney pursued his education and Mae worked at Loma Linda University Academic Publication's Office as Assistant Editor. The Editor and Supervisor of the Department asked Mae to provide black and white photographs of campus life to be published in the University Catalogues.
The Wertz family went to task, bought cameras, film, and darkroom equipments that they still have stored in boxes in their garage. To improve her photography skill, Mae took classes at Loma Linda University.
After moving to Lubbock, Texas, the Wertz family pursued their interest in photography by signing up for a digital photography workshop with Alain Briot in 2002. From Alain they learned of places to photograph in the Southwest, process digital images in Photoshop, print, preserve prints, mat, frame, showcase, and sell their work at art shows.
Alain Briot was impressed by Rodney and Mae's photographs and encouraged them to market their work. During this time, Lubbock was becoming a center for the arts. For practical experience, Mae donate her time at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. After sharing her photography prints with the director of the Underwood Center for the Arts, the director invited Mae and her husband to show their work at the First Friday Art Trail.
In 2006 the Wertz's obtained a Sales Tax ID number and registered their company name as Adasa Arts--Adasa meaning lens. After participating in few art shows in Lubbock, Texas, people asked, "where is Lubbock in all this?" Beginning at 5:00am one day in July, 2006, Mae proceeded to photograph Lubbock. Her Photography journey that day ended at Texas Tech University; and that was the beginning of photographing Texas Tech and obtaining a license to design promotional products with the Texas Tech University logo.
